Western Sierra Medical Clinic will host a new daytime session of the six-week Healthier Living Workshop beginning Sept. 12 at the Community Recovery Resources Campus.
The weekly classes are free and open to the public and run through Oct. 17. The program is designed to support and educate individuals living with chronic health conditions such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes, MS, celiac disease, ALS, arthritis and chronic pain.
Classes cover topics such as pain and symptom management, the benefits of condition-appropriate exercise and nutrition, dealing with difficult emotions, relaxation techniques and tips for communicating with health care professionals.
Classes are limited to 12 participants and co-led by two certified instructors from WSMC, who received comprehensive training through the California Collaborative for Chronic Disease Prevention.
The program, created by Stanford University, relies on shared learning experiences. Each participant receives the companion book, “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions,” a guided relaxation tape and weekly action plans.
Healthier Living classes will take place Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Classroom 105 of the CoRR Campus, located at 180 Sierra College Drive in Grass Valley.
Pre-registration is required and can be made by contacting Chris Grace at 530-274-9762.
