Two arrested on drug charges after Grass Valley traffic stop

Grass Valley Police officers arrested a man and a woman on drug charges after a traffic stop Sunday afternoon. The woman later was linked to a case involving forging drug prescriptions, said Grass Valley Police Capt. Rex Marks.

An officer conducting extra patrols due to reports of increased drug activity saw a suspicious vehicle on Buena Vista Avenue at about 4 p.m., Marks said.

During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly found a little more than 1 gram of methamphetamine, as well as miscellaneous pills believed to be prescription medication and drug paraphernalia.

The driver, Kyle Gower Short, 18, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia and was booked and released on $11,000 bail. He also had been arrested in March by Grass Valley Police on suspicion of possession of stolen property and counterfeit bills.

The passenger, Jessica Marie Schenck, 27, was arrested on the drug charges, as well as for charges in connection with a prior case involving forging prescriptions, Marks said. She was booked and released on $11,000 bail.

Schenck also had been arrested in early April after Grass Valley Police officers allegedly found her with 30 grams of methamphetamine and drug scales.

Schenck was stopped in the 500 block of Brunswick Road at about 1:30 a.m. and allegedly appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. During a search of her person, officers found 30 grams of methamphetamine and scales.
