Victims' rights advocate to speak at Republican Women's luncheon

Victims’ Rights Advocate Nina Salarno-Ashford will be the keynote speaker at the May 21 Nevada County Republican Women Federated (NCRWF) luncheon meeting at Alta Sierra Country Club. The death of Salarno-Ashford’s sister, victim of a violent crime, immersed her and her family in the criminal justice system. The family recognized that the voice of the victim had no role in the criminal justice system. Out of their dedicated efforts, Crime Victims United was formed. Salarno-Ashford authored California’s Amber Alert and helped defeat limitations to the 3 Strikes Law.

A special guest at the May meeting will be the 2013 NCRWF scholarship recipient, Andrea Bock. Andrea, a senior at Bear River High School, will receive a $1,000 scholarship to help further her education at Texas Christian University.

The June 18 NCRWF meeting will be a “Runway Style” Fashion Show produced by local talent, Daniel Brooks. Fashions will be provided by area stores: Abstrakt, Fresh Image, Judi’s of Nevada City, Marilyn’s of Auburn, Mountain Recreation, JC Penney Co., Novak’s, The Cotton Field and WoW ReShop.

A reservation for the May meeting is requested by Monday, May 13, by calling 530-274-0803. Social Hour begins at 11:30 a.m. and the meeting starts at noon.

For more information or questions about meetings and membership, call 530-470-8507, email NCRWF at or visit the website at
