Chamber lunch with LaMalfa reservation deadline Friday

The last chance to reserve seating at the Greater Grass Valley Chamber of Commerce’s April 29 luncheon featuring Congressman Doug LaMalfa is Friday, its executive said.

LaMalfa, a Richvale (Butte County) rice farmer, who previously served in the state assembly and state senate, was elected to his current office last November and represents the sprawling First Congressional District — an area encompassing much of Northeastern California, including a portion of Nevada County.

The freshman congressman will be joined by Col. Phil Stewart, commander of the Ninth Reconnaissance Wing at Beale Air Force Base. Both men will deliver keynote addresses. LaMalfa is expected to discuss the importance of supporting local commerce during national economic challenges, and will also address his support for a strong military and respect for veterans.

The talks will be prefaced by an informal meet-and-greet session which has been set for 11:30 a.m. to noon, lunch will be from noon to 12:45 p.m. and the keynote speakers will deliver their address from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. for the Monday luncheon held at the Grass Valley Veterans Memorial Hall, located at 255 South Auburn St., with ample parking in the rear.

The lunch — $45 per person donation — will be a fundraiser for the chamber with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Welcome Home Vets. The lunch menu will feature a gourmet buffet from caterer/chef Antonio Ayestaran. The event is being sponsored by The Union newspaper to benefit both the Greater Grass Valley Chamber of Commerce and Welcome Home Vets. Reservations can be made by Friday at the latest.
