Buy a pie, help an abused or neglected child

An Honest Pie, the new pie mobile, is donating all of its tips to Child Advocates of Nevada County’s CASA program this month in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Nearly every customer who buys a savory or dessert pie from An Honest Pie hears about what a CASA is and does, and their tips go to help find a Court Appointed Special Advocate, for every child who has been removed from his or her home because of abuse and/or neglect.

A CASA is a community volunteer, trained and supported by the CASA program and appointed by a judge, who builds a friendship with an abused or neglected child, helps the child through the court process, gathers information about what is happening, speaks for the child in court and makes recommendations about the outcome of the child’s case. CASA’s can make a profound difference in the life of a vulnerable child, and about 45 CASA’s in Nevada County work diligently with the Dependency Court to ensure that children stay safe, protected, nurtured and placed in a loving and permanent home as soon as possible.

An Honest Pie can be found in the Walker’s Office Supplies parking lot Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 6 p.m. and at the Ol’ Republic Brewery Thursdays from 5 to 9 p.m. Hours will soon be increasing. Fast becoming a popular lunch, dinner, snack and dessert spot, its enthusiastic customers say that not only are the pies delectable, but the service is fun, fast and friendly, all exemplifying the company’s lighthearted adage that “Pie fixes everything.”

An Honest Pie has been in business only a few months but is committed to community involvement and family values, doing its part to acknowledge April as Child Abuse Prevention Month by donating to programs who directly support abused and neglected children.
