Scofield to speak to Republican women

District II County Supervisor Ed Scofield will be the guest speaker at the April 16 luncheon meeting for Nevada Country Republican Women Federated.

He will be presenting an overview of the issues and topics of interest facing Nevada County. Supervisor Scofield’s District includes the communities of Alta Sierra, Lake of the Pines and unincorporated areas along Highway 49.

On April 9, several members and students will attend California Federation of Republican Women’s Advocacy Day at the capitol in Sacramento. Members and students from all over the state will be attending this annual event established by the suggestion of Ronald Reagan in 1974.

Starting in 1990, high school students were also invited to attend and participate in legislative action and awareness.

Call and make a reservation for the upcoming events by April 8 at 530-274-0803. Regular NCRWF meetings take place the third Tuesday of the month, September through June, at Alta Sierra Country Club, 11897 Tammy Way, Grass Valley.

Social hour begins at 11:30 a.m., and meetings start at noon.

Nevada County Social Singles open to new members

Nevada County Social Singles is a group that provides friendship and the opportunity for shared activities for singles of all ages. It regularly hosts a social hour open to both members and non-members alike on the second and fourth Fridays of each month.

The next social hour will be from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. April 12 in the Library Room of the Holbrooke Hotel in Grass Valley.

Dinner at a local restaurant follows. Information about the group and a monthly calendar of activities will be shared with potential members.

Formerly called the 50-plus Social Singles, the group is continuing its long-held policy of providing a warm and friendly welcome for singles of all ages and varied interests.
