BPW hosts women's history "Readers' Theatre" presentation

On March 20, the group Business and Professional Women of Nevada County will feature a special first-person theater presentation in honor of Women’s’ History Month. The performance will include a celebration of leaders, history-makers and brave sacrifices through three centuries of adventures, fortunes and confessions. The presentation will also be enlivened by song and a visual collection of authentic women’s history ephemera.

Have you ever seen an original woman’s suffrage button from 1910? Or a piece of sheet music from the 1850s celebrating the “bloomer” costume? Or a poster from the historic 1911 march on Washington? Those things and more will be on display before and after the performance. Do you know your own history and that of your foremothers? Don’t miss the fun!

This “Readers’ Theatre” was written by a long-time BPW member and activist, Lynn Wenzel, who is the author of two books and hundreds of articles on women’s history. She was managing editor of “New Directions for Women,” a national and international feminist publication with 65,000 readers and a book reviewer for the New York Times. Her poetry has appeared in many literary magazines. She is currently president of the Education Fund for Business & Professional Women of Nevada County.

Come celebrate your own and your female ancestors’ lives. Relish the brave words of yesteryear and honor the work of many thousands of women who gave their all in the cause of women’s equality. The program begins at 5:30 p.m. March. 20 at the Holbrooke Hotel in Grass Valley.

Please RSVP to kim@deltahl.com by Sunday. Standing members must RSVP only if they are NOT coming. If you pay by PAYPAL, you must still RSVP.

Regular and vegetarian dinner is $22; Salad is $12 and the program only is just $5.
