Celebrate Art of Love this weekend

The Artists’ Studio in the Foothills (ASiF) will host its third annual Art of Love show, featuring love-themed artworks, poetry, workshops and performance art. The art center invites the public to celebrate an Art of Love reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.

The gallery will feature a juried exhibition of more than 40 Nevada County artists’ love-themed paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, photography and mixed-media art works. An anonymous local patron has once again gifted ASiF Gallery $1,000 in prize money for a people’s choice awards ceremony in which guests at the event will vote for “Best love-themed artworks.” Prize winners will receive $500 for first prize, $300 for second, and $200 for third prize!

To kick off the event on the afternoon of the opening reception, ASiF’s Mud Hut art instructor, Denise Wey, invites couples to get creative in a special love-themed clay art workshop from 4 to 6 p.m. in the ceramic studio. The artists reception will begin at 5 p.m. in the main gallery, where guests can enjoy a glass of wine and love-themed refreshments. At 6 p.m., Nevada County poets will present love-themed poetry readings in the community classroom. And at 8 p.m., guests are invited to step outside to celebrate the Art of Love event finale in the center’s west-side parking lot with a fire-dancing performance by members of Beyond Fire Tribe!

Love as a theme has been explored throughout the ages by artists of every kind — poets, musicians, dancers, playwrights, painters and sculptors — all know well the ways in which simple words fail to convey love’s true message. Each year for Valentine’s Day, the lovers of the world find themselves in search of special cards, gifts, charms, poems and love songs to thrill and inspire their sweethearts. This year, ASiF invites the public to consider Friday as a special date night, bring your sweetie to ASiF’s event for an absolutely unique and creative experience that’s all about love.

The Art of Love exhibit will be on display Friday through March 24. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.Tuesday through Saturday.
