United Way socks and glove collection drive a huge success

During November and early December, the United Way of Nevada County coordinated a collection drive of new socks and gloves to be donated to the homeless of Nevada County. There was a generous outpouring of donated items from the community. With the help of local businesses, such as JC Penney, Walker’s Office Supplies, B&C True Value Home & Garden Center, Networked Insurance, the county courthouse, Telestream, TriContinent, schools and other individuals, our community came together to donate a large quantity of new socks, gloves, hats and scarves to the homeless of Nevada County.

United Way of Nevada County Executive Director Megan Timpany and volunteer Anne Miranda delivered the bags of items the week before Christmas. Hospitality House monitor Chad Conner Crow was on hand to receive the donation.

Cindy Maple, executive director of Hospitality House, said, “All items will be very useful for our guests. They often end up with holes in their shoes, so socks are always in high demand.”

As with other necessities, the need for socks is a year-long concern, not just during the holiday season.
