Nevada County fills helmets for local fire safety programs

Teams of enthusiastic volunteers canvassed local shopping centers to educate the public on family evacuation planning and to raise funds for local fire safety programs on behalf of the Fire Safe Council as part of Fire Prevention Week.

“The response from the community was remarkable,” said Fire Safe Council Executive Director Joanne Drummond. “So many people thanked us for the work we do and opened their wallets to show their strong support. Our volunteers are amazing. They really know how to have fun!”

The Fire Safe Council of Nevada County helps residents be fire safe while maintaining wildlife habitat and improving forest health. All funds raised during the campaign support local fire safety programs, including help for low-income seniors/disabled, as well as home advisory visits and the chipping program. Most services and programs provided by the council are free of charge to the public with a suggested donation to make the effort sustainable.

The Fire Safe Council would like to thank the following businesses, volunteers and the community: Katey Abbott, Seana Griffis, JoAnn Kauffman, Rob Paulus, B&C True Value, Grocery Outlet, Rusty Kauffman, Peardale Fire Department, Haley Cockman, Yvonne Guidera, Ingrid Knox, Kim Pruett, Tina Costella, Helene Hall, Warren Knox, Raley’s Supermarket, Bill Drown, Dee Hedenland, Little Ceasars Pizza, Rite Aid, Todd Gildersleeve, Judy Hess, Ellie McCrea, Savannah Satterfield, GV Fire Department, Higgins Fire District, Rosy Metrailer, Judy Scott, Allie Griffis, Tom Israelian, Bill Mumpower, Signworks, Kylie Griffis, Kmart, Nevada City Fire Dept., Tri-Counties Bank, Sean Griffis, Casey Kauffman, NSJ Fire District and Jim Whitaker.
