In recognition of National Hospice Month, Hospice of the Foothills commemorates the nationwide theme of “Comfort, Love, Dignity” with several special events throughout November that include a salute to veterans and a national day of giving.
Service and Salute to Veterans — Hospice of the Foothills is serving nearly 150 veterans and their families annually. Executive Director Vanessa Bengston says the agency is inspired by the national We Honor Veterans program. “We are reminded that military families make many sacrifices and experience many losses — not only deaths but also permanent disabilities, separations due to distant deployments and economic and family hardships related to duty station assignments. We are privileged to collaborate with our health care partners and the Veterans Integrated Service Network to better meet the specific needs of our veterans and their loved ones,” Bengston said.
Salute to Veterans at Chamber Mixer — Chamber members will join Hospice of the Foothills in a special salute to veterans during the November Chamber Mixer hosted by Hospice of the Foothills at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Kerby Conference Room on the Hospice of the Foothills campus in Grass Valley.
#GivingTuesday! — Hospice of the Foothills is pleased to participate in the #GivingTuesday! national day of giving Nov. 27. This unique nationwide fundraising campaign encourages philanthropic giving at the start of the annual holiday season and celebrates charitable activities that support both local and national nonprofit organizations. New York’s 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation are founding sponsors of #GivingTuesday!. They note, “We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals (Black Friday and Cyber Monday). Wouldn’t it be great to have a day for giving back?”
Hospice of the Foothills encourages the community to give back this season to a nonprofit whose mission touches lives. More than 500 families in our community were served by Hospice of the Foothills this year.
