Nevada County fills helmets for local fire safety programs

Teams of enthusiastic volunteers canvassed local shopping centers to educate the public on family evacuation planning and to raise funds for local fire safety programs on behalf of the Fire Safe Council as part of Fire Prevention Week.

“The response from the community was remarkable,” said Fire Safe Council Executive Director Joanne Drummond. “So many people thanked us for the work we do and opened their wallets to show their strong support. Our volunteers are amazing — they really know how to have fun!”

The Fire Safe Council of Nevada County helps residents be fire safe while maintaining wildlife habitat and improving forest health. All funds raised during the campaign support local fire safety programs, including help for low-income seniors/disabled as well as home advisory visits and the chipping program.

For help with making your home fire safe and preparing for emergencies, contact the Fire Safe Council at (530) 272-1122 or visit www.areyoufiresafe.com.
