Benefit for NCTV celebrates women in film

Nevada County Digital Media Center/NCTV invites the community to Ladies Movie Night on Friday, April 25.

The event, a benefit for NCTV, celebrates women in film and will feature “In a World…” that was written and directed by Lake Bell, who also stars in the movie.

She won a screenwriters award at last year’s Sundance Film Festival.

Hosted by Sharon Rose, the event is from 6 to 9 p.m. at her home, Villa della Rosa, located at 16041 Indian Springs Road in Penn Valley.

The cost of the event is $20 and includes a glass of wine or beer, appetizers, dinner, popcorn and the movie.

Dinner is being sponsored by Gold Rush Burgers and BBQ in downtown Grass Valley.

Tickets are available at BriarPatch, the Grass Valley Chamber and NCTV.

The movie features Bell as a struggling vocal coach (Eva Longoria is a student) whose father is a voiceover master.

She finds herself competing against him and his protégé for a coveted movie trailer. She becomes a star despite sexism and family dysfunction.

The event will be inside a barn and will be held rain or shine. A sweater or jacket is recommended.

The office and studio is located at 134 E. Main St. in downtown Grass Valley. NCTV broadcasts on Comcast channel 11 and on Suddenlink channel 16. Government meetings are broadcast on channel 17 for Comcast and Suddenlink.

Programs can also be seen on the station’s website at http://www.nevadacountytv.org.
