The Blue Star Mothers of America, Sierra Nevada Chapter 12, are holding a fundraising event from 5 to 9 p.m., Monday, at the Northridge Restaurant, 773 Nevada St. in Nevada City.
The Blue Star Mothers serve the troops, veterans and families of the injured or fallen. A portion of the proceeds from that night will help benefit the local chapter.
Blue Star Mothers of America regularly meets at 10 a.m. on the fourth Saturday of the month at Paulette’s Country Kitchen in Grass Valley.
If you are a mother, adoptive mother, stepmother, foster-mother, grandmother or legal guardian who now has, or has had, children honorably serving in the military, you are invited to join the group.

Dining for the wildlife
Matteo’s Public in Nevada City will host a benefit for wildlife from 5 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30. Matteo’s is donating 15 percent of the evening’s proceeds, including dine-in and take-out, to Wildlife Rehabilitation & Release, a local volunteer group that rescues orphaned and injured wildlife.
You can support the group’s efforts by coming to Matteo’s at 300 Commercial St. in Nevada City and enjoying fine dining accompanied by great music furnished by the Crows. You may also win some cash through a 50/50 raffle.
There will be several WR&R volunteers on hand to answer any questions you have regarding wildlife and other ways you can help.
