Volunteer opportunities for those 55 and older
February 7, 2013
Behind the ideas and efforts toward building a better world, volunteers fuel a movement of compassion and connection. You can make a difference by volunteering right here in your community. By sharing your time and talents to help others, you can help bring a sense of hope to our hearts, homes, neighborhoods, and ultimately our nation.
Everyone is invited to share their time and talents with Nevada County non-profits, public agencies, and schools. For persons 55 and over, accident, liability, and excess auto insurance are provided and limited mileage reimbursement is available. If you are interested in any of the following positions, e-mail us at email@example.com, visit our office at 471 Sutton Way, Suite #202 in Grass Valley, or call weekdays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 530-271-0255. RSVP is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service and sponsored locally by the Area 4 Agency on Aging. Additional opportunities with RSVP are available at http://volunteermatch.org.
Do you have skills and time to share with patients and families? There are many ways to get involved: office and clerical, gift and thrift volunteer, musician, massage therapy, compassionate care home hospitality and more. Training dates are: April 8, 10, 15 and 17.
Welcome Baby program

It is required to become a volunteer at the hospital. Training is provided. It is helpful to be knowledgeable about infant development and breast feeding and enjoy continually meeting new people.
for local food bank
A person is needed who can respond to property needs by completing repairs themselves or soliciting the needed expertise. Some items include clogged drains, shelves built, storage addition, painting and general upkeep of the aging facility. There is also a once-a-year workday to coordinate. Volunteer help in this position will allow the food bank to better utilize its money, which comes completely from donations, allowing it to buy more food for hungry families.
for local homeless shelter
Do you enjoy working with people and helping empower volunteers to be effective in their roles? This nonprofit needs your help to continue to grow and thrive as it moves toward the future. The volunteer coordinator has many responsibilities and works directly with the executive director. Please consider exploring this opportunity as it is a much needed position.
or ceramics helper
A local convalescent facility is looking for volunteer help painting ceramics pieces Tuesday mornings. Also, a Pamper Parlor volunteer is needed to wash and set hair for seniors.
