Summer Thyme’s to host fundraiser for PiELL

Summer Thyme's Bakery and Deli will host a fundraiser for Partners in English Language Learning from 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 10, featuring fun music, delicious food and the good feeling of supporting a good cause.
Amy Cooke, owner of Summer Thyme's has been a supporter of PiELL, which offers free, one-on-one tutoring to adults wishing to improve their English skills. Cooke will contribute 10 percent of the day's earnings to the organization. Summer Thyme's offers coffee drinks, pastries, quiche and gourmet salads and sandwiches, among other dishes. Local band Purdon's Crossing, which performs an eclectic mix of bluegrass, old jazz and originals, will play and donate its tips and pay for the day, as well.
PiELL is a nonprofit based in Grass Valley with one part-time employee and an all-volunteer board of directors and tutor base. It is dependent on grants and donations to continue its important work.

Friends of Libraries book sale Aug. 3
The Friends of the Nevada County Libraries' next monthly book sale will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Doris Foley Historical Library, 211 N. Pine St., Nevada City. Most books cost between 25 cents and $3.
Thousands of paperback and hardback books are included: fiction, nonfiction, children's, collectible, etc. This month's sale features books on foreign travel and crafts. For information, call 530-265-1407 or email email@example.com.
NU class of 1993 to host 20-year reunion
Members of Nevada Union High School's Class of 1993 are organizing their 20-year reunion, which will be from 6 to 11 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Holiday Inn Express in Grass Valley.

Live telecast of Grass Valley Chamber grand opening
Today's invitation-only reception and ribbon-cutting for the Greater Grass Valley Chamber and Visitors Center will be broadcast live by TouchDown Productions.
The program will air from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on NCTV's channels 11 and 16. It will also be streamed live on the Digital Media Center's website at http://nevadacountytv.org. Click under "Watch Local TV" in the middle of the home page.
Hosted by Cheryl Noble and Gil Dominguez, the live program will feature interviews with the Chamber/Visitors Center co-CEOs Keith Davies and Robin Galvan-Davies, elected officials and other members of the community's who's who. There will also be a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Wednesday's telecast will also give viewers an inside look into the new chamber office and visitors center.
The chamber's fireplace is the setting for the new Chamber Fireside Chat, a monthly, half-hour TV program that will look at our local business scene.
The program is co-produced by Noble 1 Productions and TouchDown Productions. It will debut in August and will air Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. on NCTV and on the chamber's YouTube channel, Grass Valley Chamber Network.
The public is invited to the chamber's grand opening open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday.
The Chamber is located at 128 E. Main St., directly across from Grass Valley City Hall. Light refreshments will be served.
