‘Poppy Days’ this Thursday

Red poppies will be presented at the entrance to many local stores Thursday, as part of “Poppy Days.” Organized by the American Legion, men and women of the Frank Gallino Post 130 will be offering poppies to be worn in appreciation of their annual programs, which serve our local veterans and their families. They are made by disabled and hospitalized veterans. The tradition was started after World War I when a YMCA volunteer saw how much toll the war had taken on our soldiers and created the poppy design. The poppy was then adopted by the American Legion Auxiliary as the national symbol of remembrance. One hundred percent of donations will go to local relief for our servicemen and servicewomen and their families.
