Golf club recognized for charitable work

The Alta Sierra Women's Golf Club was recently awarded the 2014 Dame Cicely Saunders Award from Hospice of the Foothills for their commitment to the programs and services of Hospice of the Foothills through significant charitable support and services.
Recently, $14,600 raised during the club's 2014 Annual Charity Tournament was presented to Vanessa Bengston, executive director of Hospice of the Foothills.
The Charity Tournament is held annually by the ASWGC to raise money for a selected charity. Since 1988 the club has raised $117,374 for Guide Dogs for the Blind, Friendship Club, Hospice, Sierra Services for the Blind, American Cancer Society, DVSAC and Women of Worth.
Hike the Litton Trail with Bear Yuba Land Trust
Members of the Bear Yuba Land Trust will lead a hike along Litton Trail at 10 a.m. on July 15.
Every month Bear Yuba Land Trust has been leading a trek on one of the trails mapped on their website (http://www.BYLT.org). This is a free outing and will introduce hikers to some of the local trails. The July 15 hike will include walking the Litton Trail from Hughes road towards Sierra College, then continue on the loop around Sierra College, make a brief stop at BriarPatch for refreshments, and then head back.
Level: mostly easy – approximately four miles round trip (for a shorter route you have the option of just walking the segment between Hughes and Dorsey). Bring water, wear good hiking shoes. FFA instructor to address livestock problems
Grumpy goats? Stuck-up chickens? Rude rabbits? What kind of problems do you have living in your backyard? Join us at the Bear River Library on Sat. July 12 to brain storm your livestock solutions with Future Farmers of America instructor, Tim Reid. Students who are interested in the FFA program are also welcome to attend. Atria to host 'The History and Significance of the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad'
Ron Paul, docent at the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum, will present a look at the history and significance of the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 21.
An expert on the subject, Ron will showcase the railroad's rich history and interesting facts. Free and open to the public, this informative program will be located at Atria, 150 Sutton Way, in Grass Valley. For more information, call 530-272-1055.
