Day for Women slated for March 16

Soroptimist of Grass Valley will host a women's conference, A Day for Women, March 16 at the Methodist Church Conference Hall in Grass Valley. The event is designed for women to spend a day improving skills, acquiring new interests and skills and developing their lives in a positive way. Workshops include tracks with speakers on "Caring for Your Mind and Body," "Don't Let Technology Scare You," "Getting Personal with Wine and Food," "Clever Creativity Skills," "Expanding Oneself with Personal Growth Skills" and more. There will be 25 workshops in all lead by experts and well known speakers in their field.

TriCounties Bank in PV

to host animal food drive

Throughout the month of March, TriCounties Bank in Penn Valley is having an animal food drive to benefit Sammie's Friends Animal Shelter. The bank will be collecting dog and cat food in its Penn Valley Branch, located at 11362 Pleasant Valley Road. Office hours are Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. After reading in The Union that Sammie's Friends was needing help with cat food, bank employees decided to host this drive.

Cal alumni group to host speaker on JFK

Gold Country Cal Alumni Association is hosting its annual Speaker's Dinner March 19 in the Holbrooke Hotel's Meeting Room. The guest speaker will be lecturer and author Ted Robinson, retired USN, who will present his personal experiences with John F. Kennedy. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with no-host cocktails, buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m. and Ted's presentation — including a question-and-answer period — from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. Students, alumni and employees of all UC campuses are invited to attend.
