Daughters of the American Revolution honor high school ‘good citizens’ in Nevada County

The Captain John Oldham Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, recently honored the DAR Good Citizen award winners from four local high schools. Each was presented with an award certificate and pin and will receive a monetary award at their Senior Scholarship and Awards ceremony. The DAR Good Citizen award recognizes outstanding high school seniors who exemplify the DAR good citizenship qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. Students are selected by their high school faculty and each participates in the DAR Scholarship essay contest administered by a faculty member. The essay must be completed in one sitting, within a two-hour time limit, and without the assistance of reference materials. The DAR Good Citizens who enter the scholarship contest are eligible for awards at the chapter, district, state and national levels.
