‘Challenging sex discrimination’ the focus of AAUW’s open meeting
October 25, 2013
The role of legal advocacy in challenging sex discrimination in the workplace and higher education will be the focus of the November American Association of University Women, Nevada County Branch meeting on Saturday, Nov. 16. Through readers theater-style re-enactments, actual legal case histories will be presented by Stephanie Norton, Nevada County Branch Legal Advocacy Fund (LAF) vice president and a cast of AAUW members. The AAUW and LAF work to challenge sex discrimination in the workplace and higher education, including unfair pay, pregnancy discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault and violations of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. LAF addresses these barriers by assisting people who are using the legal system to seek justice and change. Free and open to the public, the meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. (program begins at 10 a.m.) at Peace Lutheran Church, 828 West Main St. in Grass Valley.
