Nevada County Health Care

The community supports a long list of specialists, including pediatricians, obstetricians, surgeons, cardiologists, urologists and more.

While many rural communities have limited health care options or are closing hospitals and medical practices, western Nevada County’s health services have grown and continue to expand.

The 121 bed Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital (SNMH) is an acute care hospital, located in Grass Valley, which is committed to offering a wide continuum of services, including emergency, outpatient, medical/surgical, transitional and home care.

SNMH is affiliated with Mercy Healthcare Sacramento and Catholic Healthcare West. This partnership provides access to specialized care and other resources.

Another important senior assistance project is the Lutz Center Adult Day Services. This important service helps families with those suffering from Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, stroke or other debilitating illnesses. It provides a stimulating day care program combined with skilled nursing and other health care services. The program is for adults over eighteen years of age. Linkages to Mercy Heart Institute and Mercy General Hospital. Mercy General has been rated the best hospital in the nation for cardiac surgery survival rates for Medicare patients. SNMH has a Cardiac Catherization Lab on site, as well as a Cardiac Rehabilitation program. SNMH offers a state-of-the-art Outpatient Surgery Center with three operating rooms used exclusively for outpatient procedures.

Adjacent to the hospital’s 68,000 square foot Outpatient Center is the Sierra Nevada Cancer Center, which provides a comprehensive range of care to cancer patients. The hospital also operates the Sierra Nevada Breast Imaging Center at 150 Catherine Lane in Grass Valley, which provides screening and education services in support of breast health.

Through its Sierra Nevada Home Care affiliate, SNMH provides a full range of services for patients recovering at home or who have special health or housekeeping needs. Home Care’s Lifeline program provides a telephone link to emergency care at all times.

In 1997, SNMH began Sierra Nevada On Call, a free telephone service where callers may find answers to medical questions by calling (274-6877). Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital also has an Urgent Care Center on the hospital campus next to the emergency room.

Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital is located at 155 Glasson Way in Grass Valley. An operator can be reached at (530) 274-6000. To find out more about SNMH and its services, visit their web page at http://www.snmh.org.

In addition to the extensive hospital services, the community supports a long list of specialists, including pediatricians, obstetricians, surgeons, cardiologists, urologists and more. There are also family physicians, internists, certified nurse midwives, physical therapists, chiropractors, mental health professionals and social workers readily available.

Finally, the area’s proximity to Sacramento and San Francisco allows patients requiring specialized care to take advantage of highly regarded university medical centers. Residents can rest easy knowing that the finest healthcare is available to them either at home

or nearby.
