Chelsea Andrews, 19, was one of the first recipients of the FLY NOW scholarship offered by the Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship Fund of the Ninety-Nines, Inc., International Organization of Women Pilots.
Andrews, who graduated from Bear River High School in 2012, has been taking flight instruction at Alpine Aviation in Grass Valley. This scholarship will enable her to continue flight training while attending Sierra College.
Andrews, the daughter of Scot and Charlene Andrews of Grass Valley, has long-term goals of becoming a flight instructor and corporate pilot.
The FLY NOW award is being offered to student pilots who belong to the 99s to earn their private certificate. There were 51 applicants this year from around the world, with nine awards given.
The Ninety-Nines organization is open to any woman pilot and offers scholarships for primary training, as well as advanced ratings and certificates.
