The inaugural Spaghetti Feed fundraiser for the Fire Safe Council of Nevada County was a huge success with nearly 300 guests attending. The event was hosted at Humpty Dumpty Kitchen in Grass Valley to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the catastrophic 49er Fire, which destroyed 312 structures and scorched more than 33,000 acres in western Nevada County Sept. 11.
The fundraiser provides local undesignated funds to match grant dollars for the Fire Safe Council, a non-profit, local volunteer organization dedicated to making our community safer from catastrophic wildfire through fire prevention education, fire break clearing projects and creating Firewise Communities.
“We’d like to thank the community for coming out and supporting the Fire Safe Council. We’d also like to thank the Hodges family, owners of Humpty Dumpty Kitchen, and their staff for all their hard work in making the event such a success,” said Fire Safe Council Fundraising Chairman Bill Drown. “A heartfelt thank you to our event sponsors, Jeff Dunning with Allstate Insurance and local Realtors Rick and Suzie Nolle, for covering other event expenses. Every dollar counts, and their support is greatly appreciated.”
A large aerial map depicting the 49er Fire boundaries was prominently on display with handouts of stories from those who fought the blaze or were affected. The guests, including local firefighters, pledged their support to help make Nevada County safer from wildfires.
