CHP: Car in excess of 100 mph crashes into tree in south Nevada County

A driver reaching speeds in 100 mph on Brewer Road in South County Friday night crashed north of Gamble Lane, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Tyler Lamarche, 22, Grass Valley, was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO northbound on Brewer Road north of Gamble Lane at a high rate of speed at 10:22 p.m., Friday, the CHP reports. Several witnesses reported observing the Mitsubishi traveling in excess of 100 mph just prior to the collision.

According to the CHP, Lamarche failed to negotiate a left curve in the roadway and the Mitsubishi traveled off the edge of the east road and began to rotate in a counterclockwise direction. The right rear side of the car collided into a tree, inducing major damage to the vehicle, according to the report.

Lamarche and his passenger, 20-year-old Dakota Cook of Camptonville, were extricated from the vehicle by emergency personnel and transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

Drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this collision, although the crash remains under investigation.
