A Nevada County man has been charged with a litany of marijuana distribution-related felonies on allegations stemming all the way to Minnesota.
Shawn M. Wood, 30, was arrested Thursday at his home on the 19400 block of Buck Ridge Road, just south of Alta Sierra, where Nevada County sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant and discovered more than 30 marijuana plants growing outdoors, in addition to 72 plants growing indoors, said Sheriff Keith Royal, referencing a developing report on the investigation.
A valid marijuana prescription allows for cultivation of the plant indoors under the Nevada County cultivation ordinance, so long as the perscribed does not also grow the plant outdoors. The number of plants allowed growing outdoors in any one location is proportional to the property’s total acreage, setbacks from other properties and the number of collective medical prescriptions. Royal said he was unable to determine if Wood had a valid prescription at the time of arrest.
Officers also found 6 pounds of processed marijuana at Wood’s residence Thursday, as well as packaging materials and honey oil lab processing equipment, Royal said.
The investigation into Wood was done in collaboration with authorities in Minnesota, where he is alleged to have transported and sold marijuana, Royal said.
Following his arrest, Wood was booked into the Nevada County jail Thursday on five felony counts of criminal conspiracy, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, transporting marijuana for sale and manufacturing a controlled substance.
Wood posted $30,000 bail and was no longer in custody as of Friday morning.
While the investigation is still unfolding, Royal said that no other arrests have been made.
