Search continues for Grass Valley’s Wilma Barnhart

The search continues for Wilma Barnhart, a 74-year-old Grass Valley woman who was last seen July 7.

Barnhart lives alone at a mobile home park on Primrose Lane, said longtime friend Sheri Anastasio. She was supposed to spend the night Sunday either at Anastasio’s Lake Englebright home or the residence of another friend off Rattlesnake Road.

But Barnhart did not show up at either house.

“It’s just not like her to disappear,” Anastasio said Monday.

She was reported missing Wednesday and Grass Valley Police officers put out an advisory and a missing-persons report at that time.

Grass Valley Police Det. Sarah Carpenter, who is handling the missing-persons case, said the California Highway Patrol has done a flyover of the areas Barnhart might have traveled and saw no sign of her vehicle.

Yuba County authorities have been contacted as well.

A Silver Alert was issued Saturday.

Barnhart shopped at Rite Aid at 10:52 a.m. Sunday, then bought gas from Flyers on Plaza Drive at about 12:12 p.m. She also used her debit card at a Bank of America ATM machine on South Church Street in Grass Valley at about 1:20 p.m., according to a press release from Grass Valley Police Capt. Rex Marks.

There has been no further financial activity recorded for Barnhart, but Marks said that was not unusual for her, as she reportedly prefers to use cash.

Barnhart is described as 5-foot-5, 180 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes. She wears glasses and takes medication for a thyroid issue, Anastasio said.

She drives a brown 1999 GMC Envoy, license plate 4DMJ032.

According to Anastasio, the Envoy had a number of faded frog stickers on the back, as well as shiny items such as beads and bells on the antenna.

Barnhart keeps a number of stuffed frogs inside the vehicle, including a giant one that often sat in a passenger seat.
