Nevada County celebrities will kick up their heels to raise money for the Center for the Arts in a Dancing With Our Stars competition.
Gangnam style, West Coast swing, tango, salsa — whatever their favorite dance style may be — nine regional celebrity dancers have accepted the challenge to train with a professional dancer and compete in front of a live audience and a distinguished panel of judges for the Dancing With Our Stars champion title.
Each star contestant has committed to raise at least $2,000 to benefit the Center for the Arts. The teams include local stars paired with pros (stars are named first) who will compete Aug. 23 at Veterans Memorial Building in Grass Valley.
The dancer teams are Allison Swartzendruber (owner, Tru-Line Builders) and Jeremy Acmoody; Roxanna Cohen (owner, Pilates Place) and Nick Katzmann; Belle Star (former owner, Ridge Stop Cafe, Troupe de Trash designer) and Darren Rains; Hollie Grimaldi Flores (KNCO/STAR 94.1 FM) and Barry Connick; Machen MacDonald (owner, ProBrilliance Leadership Institute) and Jamie Hogan; Stan Miller (retired associate superintendent, Educational Services Nevada County Superintendent of Schools) and Lucy Galbraith; Dr. Brian Evans (emergency department director, Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital) and Marni Marshall; Dr. Mike Hallenbeck (radiologist, Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital) and Marissa Hernandez; and Rob Lambert (Man on the Street for The Union) and Cassie McAlister.
Dancers will be rated by a panel of judges with the live audience chiming in for the “audience choice” award. Points are also given for the “most dollars raised” with online voting/donating beginning July 15.
Ballot stuffing is welcome and encouraged.
Proceeds from Dancing With Our Stars benefit the Center for the Arts in downtown Grass Valley.
A portion of the proceeds will go toward the capital campaign to bring handicapped access to the Main Stage Theater.
Tickets will cost $25 general admission, $45 reserved floor seating or $95 VIP table seating that includes reserved parking, dessert and champagne.
Tickets can be purchased at The Center Box Office, 530-274-8384, ext. 14, at BriarPatch Co-op Community Market, 530-272-5333 or online at http://thecenterforthearts.org. Tickets go on sale Monday.
