Two nabbed in connection with GV vehicle thefts

Two men were taken into custody after separate car chases involving stolen vehicles Thursday morning.

The double pursuit unfolded after one victim in the 400 block of Neal Street called to report the theft of a white Ford F250 pickup truck shortly after 7 a.m., said Grass Valley Police Capt. Rex Marks.

The suspects left in the truck and were headed south, out of town.

Grass Valley Police and California Highway Patrol officers were attempting to locate the vehicle, which reportedly was being followed by a brown Suburban, Marks said.

CHP officers then began pursuing the Suburban on Highway 20, and the vehicle — which had been reported stolen Monday — eventually stopped in a field in the 13000 block of Squirrel Creek Road, near Deadmans Flat.

Both occupants — a man and a woman — fled. According to dispatch reports, a CHP officer was in foot pursuit of the woman, who had been driving; she was not located.

The man, identified as Christian Aaron Davis, 22, was located on Butler and Walker streets and arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and resisting arrest. He was being held in county jail in lieu of $10,750 bail.

Meanwhile, the CHP also was pursuing the truck after the driver failed to yield, onto Rough and Ready Highway east into Grass Valley. The driver failed to negotiate a turn onto Squirrel Creek Road and stopped the truck, fleeing on foot. Officers from Grass Valley Police, the CHP and the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office chased the man and quickly apprehended him, Marks said.

The man, identified as Christian Alexander Ponce, 19, was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, resisting arrest, reckless evasion and being in possession of stolen property. He was being held in lieu of $25,750 bail
