Joint study session on land use, zoning today

Grass Valley City Council and Planning Commission members will meet today to host a joint study session on preferred land use and zoning designations for the city’s southern sphere of influence.

Following that 6 p.m. meeting, the council will have a special closed session at 7 p.m. to discuss litigation, then will meet in a special session with the Capital Improvements Authority regarding preparing an Environmental Impact Report and a traffic study regarding that southern sphere of influence.

The joint study session is meant to provide a preferred land use mix, which will be used to establish the project description for the EIR. It is intended to provide the information necessary to study the potential impacts of any land use changes in the sphere of influence, according to the agenda posted by the city.

The city council in March had directed staff to move forward with amending the General Plan Land Use Map for 421 acres that includes the area in the southern sphere of influence on both sides of Highway 49; a prezone of approximately 140 acres of land on the east side of the highway; and look at annexation of about 140 acres of land.

The meetings will be in council chambers at City Hall, 125 E. Main St. For information, go online to or call 530-274-4310.
