The Greater Grass Valley Chamber of Commerce announced Tuesday that it has confirmed with Congressman Doug LaMalfa’s office that the freshman member of the House will be the featured speaker at an April 29 luncheon to at the Grass Valley Veterans Memorial Building.

The cost of the lunch is a donation of $45 per person, which will raise funds for the GGVCC with a portion of the proceeds to benefit Welcome Home Vets.

Col. Phil Stewart, commander of the Ninth Reconnaissance Wing at Beale Air Force Base, who has more than 500 hours of combat time and has flown more than 100 combat missions, will also be at the lunch.

“We are pleased that both Congressman LaMalfa and Col. Stewart have agreed to attend the lunch,” said Keith Davies, co-CEO and executive director of the local chamber of commerce. “We want to offer our members and the community at large as many opportunities as possible to hear and question people who represent us in important capacities, and the April lunch will certainly meet that goal.”

An informal meet-and-greet session has been set for 11:30 a.m. to noon, lunch will take place noon to 12:45 p.m., and the program featuring Col. Stewart and Rep. LaMalfa as keynote speakers will take place 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The congressman is expected to discuss the importance of supporting local commerce during national economic challenges and will also address his support for a strong military and respect for veterans.

“Due to the expected large crowd, advance reservations will be necessary,” Davies said.

The lunch is being sponsored by The Union to benefit both the Greater Grass Valley Chamber of Commerce and Welcome Home Vets, currently located at the Lola Montez House on Mill Street in Grass Valley.

The menu will feature a gourmet buffet from caterer and chef Antonio Ayestaran.

Reservations for the luncheon can be made by calling the Greater Grass Valley Chamber of Commerce office at 530-273-4667 or by sending in the reservation coupon with payment attached to The Union newspaper advertisement.
