Women of Worth, a local nonprofit, was one of three organizations honored with a 2013 Lyon Cares Award by Lyon Real Estate.
Women of Worth, which assists families in crisis and domestic violence victims, received a $2,000 award from the business, after being nominated by Mary “B” Baumgardner of the Lyons Real Estate Auburn office.
“Women Of Worth is deeply grateful to be chosen as one of the Lyon Cares Award winners,” said Executive Director Sandy Schmidt.
Women of Worth seeks to help their clients “to improve quality of life by helping them rebuild their lives with dignity, hope and safety,” according to the organization’s mission statement.
Women of Worth provides no-cost services, including short-term assistance and long-term transitional programs to enable women to safely escape domestic violence.
Lyon Real Estate also presented a $5,000 prize to Lighthouse Counseling & Family Resource Center and $3,000 to Wellspring Women’s Center. as part of the annual awards program.
To assist Women of Worth’s efforts, the organization asks those interested to make donations according to its “urgent needs” list: 75 feet of 3/4 gas line; 7-foot long straps to hang from rafters, end caps and related hardware; 18-foot, 2x4 pressure-treated boards; 20 18-foot, 2x4 regular boards; 12 1/2-inch 4x8 sheets of sheetrock; mud and tape.
Needs also include a box truck with a lift gate (to borrow or possibly purchase); laundry mat-style rolling carts and small grocery carts. Gift cards to local home improvement stores for these items would also be welcomed donations.
