Congregation B'nai Harim hosts Seder

Congregation B’nai Harim at the Nevada County Jewish Community Center is hosting a special kosher-style, gourmet catered Passover Seder at the Elks Lodge in Nevada City at 6 p.m. March 26.

Catering is by Christine Cain. A delicious vegetarian option is also available if ordered at reservation.

The Seder will be lead by Rabbi Alan Greenbaum.

Passover is a holiday celebrating freedom from slavery, specifically, the Exodus of the Israelites, led by Moses, from Egypt.

A special dinner, called a Seder re-enacts the Exodus through stories, songs and ritual foods.

At the center of the table is a Seder plate, which has the various ritual foods on it.

Many well-known biblical stories such as the burning bush, the parting of the Red Sea, the 10 plagues and so on, are shared during this time.

This year, the holiday of Passover begins at sunset March 25 and lasts for eight days.

Tickets for the Seder are $25 for adults, $10 for children 12 and under, and $60 for a family of two adults with children.

To make a reservation, contact Mya Russell at myarussell@hotmail.com or at 530-272-1554. Checks should be made out to NCJCC and mailed to 506 Walsh St., Grass Valley, CA 95945.

Include the name of your party reservation in the memo line of your check.

The Elks Lodge is located at 518 Highway 49 in Nevada City, just past the Rood Administration Center.
