Penn Valley Diagnostic Center celebrates expansion

The public is invited to an open house at the Penn Valley Diagnostic Center in celebration of National Heart Month and the center’s expansion.

From 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 7, people can get an up close look at the new x-ray and electrocardiogram services at the facility, which is located at 11366 Pleasant Valley Road.

The event will feature free health screenings, tours, and a raffle, according to Debbie Wagner, RN, director of community and physician relations for Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. Attendees are also invited to meet Dr. Andrew Burt, who recently joined the Sierra Care Physicians family practice office in the same building.

“We’re very happy that we’re able to maintain the diagnostic center for the convenience of Penn Valley area residents,” Wagner said. “We hope our new services will make the Center even more valuable to them.”

The center has been providing laboratory services for about 10 years. Now, Penn Valley residents can also go there for basic x-ray studies, and for an electrocardiogram (EKG), which is used to measure the heart’s electrical activity.

“The recent expansion represents a commitment to the community of Penn Valley and a desire to provide services at convenient locations for our patients,” explained Tim Stephens, the hospital’s vice president of professional services. “The expansion will allow our patients to receive care closer to their home. In addition, because Penn Valley has a growing community of medical providers, the expanded center is designed to support physicians in making available the best care for their patients who live in the valley.”

Stephens said the center now serves about 50 patients per day.

Wagner said the Center’s normal hours for lab testing are from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Radiology and EKG testing will be done on those days between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. It is closed for lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m. daily.

During the open house, the public will be offered “heart healthy snacks,” and free health screenings, including EKG tests, blood pressure checks, and pulse oximetry – a non-invasive measurement of oxygen levels in the blood.

Raffles will be held for a heart health screening, and a mammography screening, as well as gift certificates for the Tuscany Garden restaurant, Pleasant Valley Farm, and Holiday Market.

Dr. Burt noted that while the Sierra Care Physicians Penn Valley offices are not affiliated with the Diagnostic Center, many of their patients take advantage of its services.

“The availability of lab testing and now diagnostic imaging in Penn Valley allows our patients to avoid a trip up the hill to Grass Valley,” he said. “This is especially important for my elderly patients, many of whom rely on family and friends for transportation, or who do not feel comfortable driving to Grass Valley regularly.”

Dr. Burt has joined two other physicians in the Penn Valley family practice, Dr. Mara Berezniak, and Dr. Lezley Brown.

All physicians providing care for patients at SNMH are members of the medical staff and are independent practitioners, not employees of the hospital.
