Junior high writers compete for honors during annual tournament

Thirty-nine seventh- and eighth-grade students from 10 local public, private and charter schools competed in the county-wide Writing Tournament Thursday at Miners Foundry Cultural Center. The Nevada County Superintendent of Schools Office coordinated the annual event, which was sponsored by The Union and Miners Foundry Cultural Center. The students were judged on three styles of writing: — Expository writing: Robin Hauck, deputy manager of the Nevada County Fairgrounds spoke to the students. Afterward, the students were given time to write a paper on what they had heard and seen. — Creative writing: The students wrote compositions about a snowman. — …
