Jim Rogers memorial bike ride set for Feb. 9

The fourth annual Jim Rogers Memorial Ride will kick off at 11 a.m. Feb. 9 at the Tour of Nevada City Bicycle Shop at 457 Sacramento St. in Nevada City.

Rogers was a prominent bicyclist in Nevada County and was killed Jan. 31, 2010, by a driver while riding his bike on Highway 174, as previously reported by The Union.

Rogers helped establish the bicycle shop where the event is taking place.

A bicycle benefit lunch also will be offered as a way to support youth bicycling groups in Nevada County. The lunch will take place at 12:30 p.m. at the bike shop after the ride.

If it rains, lunch will be served at Odd Fellows Lodge at 212 Spring St., Nevada City.

Rogers’ favorite food, sandwiches, will be served for lunch with a suggested donation price of $5.

Riders are instructed to park in nearby neighborhoods and ride bikes over to the shop.
