In response to parental concerns following December’s Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn., Union Hill School District is working with local law enforcement to provide a forum about safety today.
“We had quite a few parent phone calls and it’s intended for our parent population because they have expressed concern after the Connecticut incident,” said Union Hill Superintendent Susan Barry. “Parents may have specific questions as to protocol and we just want them to feel informed.”
The meeting is open to the public, but will address Union Hill’s campus specifically.
“I think the information from (Grass Valley Police Department) and the Sheriff’s department will probably be more general in nature, but the content will be specific to our school district,” Barry said.
Because of Union Hill’s open and unfenced campus, preventing a break-in would be impossible, Barry said, but precautions are still in place.
“It would be impossible to prevent anything with this campus structure, but we really recognize the responsibility of ongoing training is what it’s about,” Barry said.
The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. today in Union Hill’s gymnasium, 10879 Bartlett Dr., in Grass Valley.
