The annual Christmas HoHoHo event by Women of Worth helped brighten the spirits of 95 families that were given a Christmas this year.
“It went great,” said Nan Drummer, a member of Women of Worth. “Everybody seemed extremely appreciative, there were a few tears, and we had a huge 10-foot Christmas tree someone donated form North San Juan.”
The families in need go through a screening process, providing proof of residency and other documentation and families in most need are chosen by “angels” who adopt a family, providing gifts for a family that would otherwise go without.
“All the families came the 20th and got their gift and it was very heartfelt,” Drummer said. “And the people who are angels really enjoy it and sometimes they continue to help the families in need throughout the year.”
The event takes place at the Nevada County Fairgrounds and this year’s event included the help of the Salvation Army.
The “angels” are more involved in the process as they read the stories of the families who were interviewed and in need and choose which family to support.
“Part of the process is they see the story and what the situation is and that’s how they choose who they want to help,” Drummer said. “They are more involved and more committed because they choose them.”
