United Way of Nevada County is holding a drive to collect warm socks and gloves for homeless people in the community. Donate new socks and gloves and help the homeless stay warm this winter.
Who are the homeless? They are people challenged by illness or injury, or both; by traumas of childhood or war, or both; by their own imperfect choices or those of others, or both-or by all of these troubles. Too often they are children. Donate new women’s, men’s and children’s socks and gloves. Everything collected will stay in our community.
Drop off locations include Walker’s Office Supplies, JC Penney, B&C True Value Home Center and the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce.
Want to put out a collection box at your business? Sock drive kits, which include a box, and fliers are available. Please let us know if you are interested in participating in this holiday collection.
This year’s United Way community impact areas are education, income and health. In the impact area of education, they are helping children and adults achieve their potential through education and mentoring programs.
In the impact area of income, they are helping families and seniors become financially stable and independent by supporting basic needs. Through the impact area of health, they are improving people’s health by increasing access to critical healthcare services, reducing substance abuse, child abuse, and domestic violence. United Way is creating opportunities by focusing on these three building blocks for a good life.
