Partnering against hunger in western Nevada Couny

The western Nevada County community has continued to embrace opportunities to support a program that has served its people for a quarter century.

Interfaith Food Ministry has helped western Nevada County families for the past 25 years.

IFM is an all-volunteer organization that receives no state or federal funding but manages to provide food to those in need, thanks to the generosity of the community and the efforts of its volunteers.

Most recently, Mt. St. Mary’s School raised $2,404 for IFM’s Partnering Against Hunger program through the school’s gala fundraiser.

While serving the need for supplemental food for hard-hit families in the community, Interfaith Food Ministry has outgrown its current facility, 551 Whiting St. in Grass Valley, and seeks to raise money for an expansion or the relocation of its services.

Funds are also needed to expand days or hours of operation to serve a larger population.

“We want anyone who needs to receive food to be able to get food,” says Sue Vanson, president of Interfaith Food Ministry.

Another opportunity to show support for the cause comes Friday night. Paulette’s Country Kitchen will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser 5-9 p.m. Friday at its Sutton Way location in Grass Valley.

Tickets will also be available for a drawing to win donated gifts. For $10, one can purchase a dinner plate of spaghetti, green salad and bread. Dessert and drinks may be purchased for an additional charge. Employees of Paulette’s will donate their service in support of the event so that 100 percent of the proceeds will go to Interfaith Food Ministry.

Tickets may be purchased from board members of Interfaith Food Ministry, at Paulette’s or at the door.
