Thomas Richard Rice died Nov. 18, 2007, at the Grass Valley Medical Facility. He was 95.
In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held.
Mr. Rice was born Feb. 25, 1912, in Dodge City, Kan., to Wally and Hazel Rice. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Japan and Germany. He served in the Army from 1933 to 1958 and retired as a staff sergeant. He then worked as a security guard at Dewitt State Hospital in Auburn and as a service attendant at Terrible Herbst Gas Station in Grass Valley.
He loved doing things for people.
Mr. Rice is survived by his son, Bill Rice of Chicago, Ill.; daughter, Faye Botts of Pine Grove; son, Paul Rice of Minnesota; daughter, Tina Rice of Chicago, Ill.; daughter, Judy Parker of North San Juan; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Rice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary, Nevada City.
