Nevada City innkeepers Ken and Eileen Strangfeld hosted their last overnight guests over the weekend as they prepare to close the bed-and-breakfast they've owned since May 2004.
They announced their Dec. 23 closing date earlier this fall, after struggling with the recession.
"On one hand, it's difficult to leave, because we've made a great many friends here," Eileen Strangfeld said Wednesday. "But on the other hand, I'll be spending more time with grandkids, and that's a positive. We're trying to look at the positives."
They were still planning their a wine reception Wednesday evening; the daily event was a tradition that featured all local wines.
The couple plans to move soon to the Pacific Northwest to be closer to their grandchildren.
The Strangfelds are still seeking a buyer for the Nevada Street inn, a historic Victorian that has been on and off the market over the past few years.
