Eddie the Elf is back.
Well, for at least one night, anyway — and a limited return engagement at his Christmas cottage is a definite possibility.
After nearly three decades, Eddie the Elf devastated longtime fans last year when he announced that he would be retiring after Christmas. The news caused generations of Nevada County residents to go into mourning over no longer being able to bring Eddie gifts, tell him their Christmas wishes and listen to his trademark quips and sing-alongs at the tiny gingerbread cottage tucked into a winter wonderland on Pasquale Road.
Last year’s crowds grew so dense at times that two-hour waits were the norm and traffic jams clogged the road, and a petition to rescind his retirement drew hundreds of signatures.
Now it looks like the wishes of Eddie’s fans might come true.
“Eddie the Elf will be at Victorian Christmas in Nevada City on Dec. 7 to help out Big Brothers Big Sisters,” Eddie told The Union, adding he will be located in a “whimsical little setting” near the downtown area on Pine Street.
Eddie said he was not sure of the exact times of his Victorian Christmas appearance, but would announce that information as soon as the details were ironed out.
Last year, Eddie the Elf got choked up when he talked about hanging up his stockings, and left open the possibility of his return.
In a Facebook message on Friday, Eddie hinted that there was more news to come, regarding a return to his Christmas cottage.
