Dignity Health Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital will host an open house to showcase its newly renovated Labor and Delivery area in the Women and Infant Care Unit (WICU) 4:30-6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13.
Free and open to the public, the event features a tour of the new labor and delivery area, nursery, waiting room and laboring spa.
For all ages, the open house features children’s activities including T-shirt decorating by Ben Franklin’s, homemade baby-food tasting by The Briar Patch, ice cream by Treats, and special guest Ron Rodecker, the artist and creator of TV’s “Dragon Tales,” who will be at the event drawing his famous characters and giving away coloring books to participants.
“We are very excited to showcase the new labor and delivery area of our WICU,” Tim Stephens, vice president of Professional Services at the hospital, said. “A lot of care has gone into creating a warm atmosphere to welcome the newest members to our community.”
The open house will showcase six months of renovations that resulted from water damage by heavy rains last fall. The Labor and Delivery area was temporarily relocated during the construction and returns to its previous location with new wood flooring, freshly painted walls, new artwork and furniture. Additional improvements are also being made to waiting rooms, patient rooms and hallways.
Other community partners at the event include Nest, Future Generations and Peace Love Swap Play. These and other local organizations will be on hand to provide information about birthing and infant care, prenatal and postpartum classes, doula services, child safety and more.
