Woman arrested in alleged post-rodeo assault on her husband, daughter

A Rough and Ready woman who reportedly was upset that her husband made her leave the Penn Valley Rodeo early was arrested Saturday after she allegedly assaulted her daughter and her husband.

Christina Marie Salinas, 37, had consumed about four large beers at the rodeo, said Nevada County Sheriff's Capt. Jeff Powell.

She reportedly was there with her husband, her daughter and her ex-husband.

"She wanted to stay and dance, and he wanted to go," Powell said. "He wanted to leave — he had to get up early."

When they got back to a residence on Highgrader Road, Salinas allegedly became enraged, and an argument ensued.

"She grabbed two kitchen knives and was waving them around," Powell said.

Her husband was able to get out of the residence with four children, but Salinas reportedly followed them. Her ex-husband convinced her to drop the knives, which she did, Powell said.

But as her husband was loading the children into the vehicle, Salinas allegedly began fighting with him. She then allegedly punched her daughter in the head several times.

At some point, Salinas allegedly bit her husband in the hand, drawing blood, as well as on the genitals.

The two men eventually were able to get her back in the residence, Powell said.

Salinas was arrested on suspicion of spousal abuse and child endangerment, booked into county jail and released on $25,750 bail.

Salinas' husband declined medical treatment at the scene.
