Watch out for those random acts of kindness
September 1, 2014
The RAKE event is coming to Nevada County! So what is RAKE and how can you get involved?
It goes without saying that neither “Kindness” nor “Random Acts of Kindness” is a concept created by Anew Day. “Kindness,” has existed in the heart of humanity since its inception. But sometimes kindness requires a bit of a re-awakening and, in recent times, there has been a wonderful message conveyed through many different media sources encouraging our society to perform “Random Acts of Kindness” for no other reason than to make the world a better place.
With this in mind, as a bonding exercise for our volunteers, Anew Day developed the concept of going out into our community in teams, performing both organized and Random Acts of Kindness thereby pouring kindness out into the community and at the same time bonding us together as a group.
But then it hit us: Why limit this exercise to our “in-house” Anew Day volunteers when Nevada County is full of kind-hearted people who would love to get involved ?
The most amazing thing about RAKE is that every day it becomes bigger in concept and vision than we could ever have imagined — Sept. 20 is the first RAKE event but it is already becoming clear that it will not be the last. Our community is stepping up with such a keen, almost impatient sense of desire to get involved — because you see “Kindness is Contagious” and there is no limit to where this will lead.
So what does RAKE look like at a glance and how can you participate?
• Go to therakeevent.com and register (either as a team or individually).
• Pick one of our suggested Acts of Kindness or create one of your own.
• Ask your friends, family, employer to sponsor you.
• Show up on Rake Day at Pioneer Park at 8 a.m. and prepare for some fun!
One thing we have learned through out RAKE planning process is that Kindness looks and feels different to different people. You define what is “kind” and put your heart into action on RAKE Day.
More on the what, when, where, and how is coming in future articles. Can’t wait? Check it out on TheRakeEvent.com or ANEW-DAY.com
