Two arrested in Grass Valley on drug charges

A Grass Valley Police officer looking for a reported physical altercation Sunday didn't track down those suspects — but ended up arresting two men on drug charges.

The officer had responded to the 1400 block of East Main Street a little after 11 a.m. to a report of two men in a fight; one had left in a vehicle and the other left on foot, according to dispatch reports.

A vehicle was located parked in front of a closed business at the corner of East Main Street and Dorsey Drive with three people inside, said Sgt. Joe Matteoni.

The officer made contact with the trio and saw drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, including needles, Matteoni said.

The driver, identified as Kyle Gower Short, had a warrant relating to a prior arrest in mid-March for possession of stolen property and was taken into custody. He was later booked into county jail on the warrant and on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia and was released on $11,000 bail.

The vehicle was subsequently searched, and a "good amount" — approximately 8 grams — of methamphetamine was located next to one of the passengers, Matteoni said.

There also allegedly were syringes next to the man, identified as 30-year-old Michael Alan Kryzopolski.

He was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance for sale and drug paraphernalia and was being held in county jail in lieu of $36,000 bail.

Kryzopolski had been arrested in November after he was found in a parked vehicle at the 49er Fun Park.

A search of Kryzopolski allegedly uncovered marijuana hash, a pipe and a syringe; he was arrested on suspicion of possession of concentrated cannabis and drug paraphernalia, as well as committing a felony while on bail. Officers subsequently recovered 1 1/4 pounds of marijuana that had been stashed in some adjacent bushes.
