SF Chronicle readers: Nevada City ‘worth the drive’
April 5, 2013
Readers of the San Francisco Chronicle have deemed Nevada City “worth the drive” up from the Bay Area, according to a photographic slideshow at the newspapers website, SFGate.com.
Ranked among the first 10 cities listed, Nevada City is where “Old and new cross paths as cars follow behind a horse drawn carriage tour through Nevada City. (Drive time: 2.5 hours),” the website reports.
Nearby cities of Truckee, Auburn, Sierra City and Placerville are also among those listed.
Last September, Outside Magazine listed Nevada City as one of the best River Towns in North America, a recognition flaunted by locals. The magazine’s readers ranked the town just below Richmond, Va., as the second best town one on the list.
“You constantly want to be on these kinds of lists,” said Mayor Duane Strawser. “They are tools to helping close deals on various events we try to hold here.”
Serving the Bay Area, SFGate.com is among the top 300 sites in the country, according to Alexa.com, a leading web analytics sources. The site ranks above Lifehacker.com and behind TigerDirect.com.
Strawser said that designations like that of Outside and SFGate not only help attract events, such as the Amgen Tour of California cycling race, but also brings individuals to the area.
“The gas stations, the shopkeepers and hotels all get one more customer whenever someone comes here,” he said. “Economically, it’s critical.”
