Reportedly drunken woman fights with cops

A Grass Valley police officer doing a welfare check on a woman in a pickup truck ended up arresting her on battery, alcohol and weapons charges Thursday night.
The officer was on patrol on East McKnight Way at about 10:40 p.m., when he passed a purple Ford Ranger truck parked on the side of the road with its headlights on, said Sgt. Steve Johnson.
There was a woman in the driver's seat with her head against the window, who appeared to be asleep, Johnson said.
The officer turned around and parked behind the truck for a welfare check and reportedly could hear the woman yelling obscenities.
As he approached, he could see her lying across the console, yelling into her cellphone, Johnson said.
It took several attempts by the officer to gain her attention, Johnson said, adding that she then began kicking the dashboard and flailing her arms while continuing to scream into her phone.
"There was a bottle of whiskey next to her that was almost empty," he said. "It also appeared she had urinated herself."
The woman — identified as Maria Gayle Naef — reportedly was persuaded to exit the truck after the officer opened the door and removed the keys from the ignition. When asked how much she had had to drink, she reportedly answered, "Too much."
Naef became upset with the officer and tried to physically resist as he was arresting her on suspicion of being drunk in public, Johnson said. She was handcuffed and searched, and the officer reportedly found metal knuckles inside her pants pocket.
After Naef was placed in the back of the patrol vehicle, she began banging her head and face into the door window, Johnson said.
When officers tried to restrain her, she reportedly kicked at least one officer several times.
"They eventually were able to put her in a hobble restraint," Johnson said.
Naef was booked into county jail on suspicion of being drunk in public, possessing metal knuckles and battery on a peace officer. She was being held in lieu of $11,750 bail.
