A Penn Valley man who had been facing multiple charges that he committed lewd acts against two girls younger than 14 pleaded no contest to one count in return for a six-year state prison sentence.

Jaryd Matthew Newton, 24, faced four counts stemming from incidents that occurred between June 23, 2010, and Aug. 22, 2011.

Newton took a plea agreement in Nevada County Superior Court Thursday in return for the six-year stipulated sentence. He can only receive 15 percent credit for good behavior and will be on parole for four years.

He must register as a sex offender, and this will be considered a strike offense. He is set to be sentenced Nov. 19.
